There are many concepts to my journey. With diet and exercise aside, the mental obstacles will effect my overall results and can discourage me if I am not prepared with as much knowledge as possible.
The following are some topics that I will mentally embrace on my journey:
Indulgences:
I have a few guilty pleasures I am letting go. As of today, it has been four days since I have indulged in nicotine, no more smoking. This is a no-brainer as to why, but the toxins will stifle any fitness progress I make. Done.
Alcohol and Candy. What? NO! Actually going Primal does allow red wine and dark chocolate, cocoa of 75% or above has health benefits, brain stimulants and well...it's all part of my sanity. Organic is always better.
Cost and Budget:
I am a cheap person. I hate spending money on things if I can find it for less, I use coupons and I hate wasting things...so when shoppping I had a hard time adjusting to the cost of organic and grass fed meats. Shit, even herbs, spices and teas are expensive. A good point Mark makes in his book is that even if your food budget increases, you are getting better quality, eating out less and chemo and cancer treatments are expensive. Being sick less often, saving money on other SAD food items you are no longer buying and eventually eating less will benefit. I have no problem with this. I just need to stay focused on this when I spend $40 on grass fed steaks. But boy, once you taste the difference, it's worth it.
Fun. I need to have fun. being active, planning meals, shopping, sharing my knowledge and educating others. I don't see this as an obstacle at all.
Technology:
This will be a tough one. I really need to find a structure to limit my use of technology. Cell phone, emails, Facebook, watching Jeopardy....yes yes yes please. Fuck. I cant do with out but I do know if I have a set time frame not only will I enjoy these extra curricular activities more but they will be of better quality. I wont just sit and watch shit on television or aimlessly google things. I will have a clear focus and appreciation for the digital stimulation at hand and will in turn produce more quality time for other more productive endeavours. Also I think I need more face to face in my personal relationships, and stop hiding behind my facebook page. Oh and blogs. I love blogs.
Roxy Unplugged:
I am also pretty good about spending quality time alone. I like to be at home and relax by myself, take walks and go shopping. I really enjoy my alone time but I need to unplug it. I want to read more and find new things to enjoy.
Sleep Habbits:
Ok so I sleep with my cell phone, pay bills late at night and fall asleep in front of the tv, but who doesn't?
This all needs to stop. Mark's take on high-energy mornings start with happy sleep habits, calming evening rituals and peaceful environment for rest and peaceful mornings activities. This is my favorite part. I am looking forward to a new practice of easing into my day. I am busy, but I deserve more productive moments of my day and it all starts with my morning. I can dig it.
I have covered my favorite points of mental preparedness. Let's see if I can keep a strong focus on these in the face of adversity.
This is my journey. This is my story. The documentation here is about my personal quest for primal health, optimum performance and a healthy balanced life. There is always room for improvements, there is always a new way to grow and more self to discover so hopefully this will inspire others and myself to continue the challenge.

being prepared
So I am reading this book called the 21 Day Total Body Transformation by Mark Sisson. He is the author of Mark's Daily Apple and the master of The Primal Blueprint, all guides to the Paleo Lifestyle.
I think I am going to use this as a strong foundation to my Primal Journey.
In the past few weeks I have been cleansing my home of all unfriendly items according to the Primal Blueprint.
I threw away all bad food in my home. There are some dairy and grains remaining that I will use in moderation until I phase them out completely.Either because I spent a lot of money on them or I don't feel the need to part with immediately.
I read the first few chapters of Marks new book. I have a firm grasp on Marks Key Concepts, I am fairly fimiliar with the basics of the Paleo Life but a few new things I had learned that I agree are important.
For the next few weeks I'll be preparing for my 21 day journey including 30 days CLEAN starting January 1, 2012 and planning meals, events and mapping out my key concepts to stay clean.
